Ahmed Kablan
Senior Science Advisor
Dr. Kablan leads the Bureau for Resilience and Food Security efforts on Food loss and waste, food safety and nutrition research. Dr. Kablan is a member of the Interagency Risk Assessment Committee (IRAC), member of the Interagency Committee on Human Nutrition Research (ICHNR), and a member of the external advisory boards for the Partnership for Aflatoxin in Africa (PACA). Dr. Kablan is a co-lead of the USAID Food Loss and Waste (FLW) community of practices, representing USAID on the UNFSS Food is never a waste Coalition and member of the interagency food loss and waste working group & the FLW IPC. Ahmed has a passion for DEIA, he was member of the RFS first DEIA council and a co-lead of the USAID DEIA Culture of Inclusion working group. One big influence on his way of thinking about DEIA comes from his reading about MLK and he shares some his MLK favorite quotes in his signature
Dr. Kablan has over 24 years of research in human nutrition, international development, science policy and regulatory experience. Dr. Kablan holds a degree in Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) & a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of Bologna/Italy.
Fun Fact: Ahmed grew up in a farming family in a small village in North Jordan as one of 10 children. He has a passion for agriculture (especially livestock as he used to spend his summer breaks as a sheep/goat shepherd for his family herd). He was a small business owner (Pharmacy he owned after graduation) and realized it was too hard to run a business, so he chose graduate school. In his spare time, he enjoy climbing, running, boxing (new hoppy), cycling or creative culinary and seeing how his son (Theodore, 4+ years old ) like or criticize his meals (usually ranges from I had better food than this in my life to this food is disgusting or in rare occasions this is the best food ever!
