I am interested in land surface processes and their interactions with climate and climate change with a particular emphasis on Arctic terrestrial climate system feedbacks and the role of land use and land management in climate change and climate mitigation (co-lead of LUMIP). Additional interests include land-atmosphere interactions, land model assessment, and improving the representation of hydrology in Earth System models. I am Chief Scientist of the Community Earth System Model. Previously, I was the lead developer of the Community Land Model for many years. I am currently the head of the Terrestrial Sciences Section in CGD at NCAR.
