Sonic anemometers and gas analyzers

Sonic anemometers measure air movement (wind) in all 3 dimensions at high-resolution (20hz). Collecting data that shows the movement of air in all dimensions provides more detailed information into how flowing air interacts with and above the snow surface.

Number deployed on SOS Project: 16

Make/model used on SOS Project: Campbell Scientific CSAT3

Steve Oncley, of the Earth Observing Laboratory group at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, describes the sonic anemometers installed at the Kettle Ponds study site in Gothic, Colorado.
