I combine remote sensing and on-the-ground measurements to monitor changes in the Arctic. Currently I am mapping retrogressive thaw slumps—a landslide-like form of abrupt permafrost thaw—and establishing methods for upscaling permafrost carbon emissions from disturbances such as abrupt thaw and wildfire. My research will provide a more precise assessment of the magnitude of emissions from thawing permafrost which will help inform climate policies and carbon budgets.
