Adam Atchley
Research Scientist
Dr. Adam Atchley is a hydrologist with broad expertise in coupled systems i.e. the interplay between wildland fire, hydrology, land surface energy balances, and ecosystem response to climate change. At Los Alamos National Laboratory Adam developed the snow and energy balance model for Amanzi-ATS to understand Arctic permafrost degradation and hydrologic conditions under and changing climate and developed physics-based representation of wildland fire disturbances imbedded within ecosystem process models. Wildland fire science is particularly exciting to Adam because it is a science actively pursued by land managers - providing a direct pipeline between scientific discovery and practitioner execution to maintain resilient ecosystems. Dr. Atchley’s recent work with practitioner and science teams has highlighted the potential of co-production in utilizing ecosystem carbon storage. He believes that identifying and managing ecosystem resiliency can be a powerful tool to combat climate change.
