Drew Purves

Drew Purves is a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind. There, he is co-leading a new sustainability program, the goal of which is to leverage AI for transformative impact in Sustainability. Prior to Google DeepMind, Drew spent 18 years in ecological research and environmental data science at the University of Cambridge, University of York, Princeton, and at Microsoft Research Cambridge, leading and collaborating with different groups of scientists, universities and NGOs. On joining Google DeepMind in 2015, Drew began a long period of fundamental AI research, the lessons from which he is now looking to apply to environmental sustainability, with a special focus on biodiversity and nature. In addition, Drew has a particularly strong interest in explaining and demystifying the current AI revolution for diverse groups of stakeholders in all sectors.
