Naota Hanasaki is head of Climate Change Impacts Assessment Research Section, Center for Climate Change Adaptation at National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES). Dr. Hanasaki earned a B.Eng./M.Eng./Dr.Eng. in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo. His research focuses on hydrology and water resources engineering, particularly developing a physically-based hydrological model incorporating human water use and management such as irrigation, water withdrawal, and reservoir operation. He applies the model to various global issues, including climate change impact assessment and international sustainable development. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed research papers.
