Thomas Bruhn
Research Group Leader
Being a physicist by background I have transitioned into faciliating reflective and co-creative processes for decision-makers in the field of sustainability. So often, my sense is, that there is no lack of knowledge. Rather a certain sensitivity is required for groups of people from various cultural and disciplinary backgrounds to learn and trust each other, speak shared languages and developed integrative problem understandings. I find joy in helping people discovering what connects them across apparent differences and see this connectedness as a resource for addressing complex challenges together. Somehow, this passion makes me move more and more into psychological and spiritual work, but I still cherish its origins in a physics-informed understanding for complex systems science.
On the formal level: I am leading the transdisciplinary research group ""transformative spaces and mindsets"" at RIFS Potsdam (previously known as IASS Potsdam) and I am active in various NGOs, for example as a member in the board of directors of the German Association to the Club of Rome. Before my work in the field of sustainability I did research in the field of self-organization on semiconductor nanomaterials. Also, to the extent possible, I offer my capacities for giving keynote speeches, coaching individuals or groups or designing and facilitating co-creative formats for larger groups.
