I am an atmospheric and climate scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (part of Colorado State University), where I study weather prediction, climate variability, and climate change. Currently, my focus is on developing and applying machine learning models to improve forecasts of tropical cyclones. I am especially interested in uncertainty quantification for machine learning, and improving forecasts of extreme events such as tropical cyclone rapid intensification. Previously, I have used a wide variety of Earth system models (including weather forecasting models, fully-coupled climate models, and highly simplified atmospheric models) to study topics such as extreme sea ice loss, links between Arctic and midlatitude weather and climate, jet stream variability and climate change, and large-scale circulation impacts of volcanic eruptions.
