Dr. Emilio Mateo is a Climate Science Fellow with AGCI, where he pursues research on projects related to mountain hydrology, climate resilience and adaptation, and communicating the findings from these projects to the broader scientific community and the public. Emilio’s research interests include hydrometeorological processes in alpine regions, glacial environments, water resource management, and science communication and outreach. During his graduate studies, Emilio examined changes in glacial water resources through statistical, chemical, and spatial perspectives in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado and in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru. He has also worked in educational and resource management roles at multiple National Parks through programs led by the Student Conservation Association and AmeriCorps. Outside of AGCI, Emilio enjoys nearly any activity that will get him outdoors including trail running, cycling, skiing, racing triathlons, and playing hockey.
