Vanessa Schweizer is an Assoc. Professor in the Dept. of Knowledge Integration in the Faculty of Environment at the Univ. of Waterloo in Canada. She is also a faculty member at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her research has focused on decision-making under (deep) uncertainty, namely the problem of near-term decision-making in the context of long-term consequences. Her scenario research influenced the development of the Shared Socio-economic Pathways, scenarios used for climate change research assessed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Her research has been in the contexts of climate change, long-term energy planning, and sustainable development.
