Pablo Méndez Lázaro
Associate Professor
Dr. Pablo Méndez-Lázaro is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Health of the University of Puerto Rico, Graduate School of Public Health. He studied in Puerto Rico, Spain and USA (Geography, Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences-Water Resources and; Climate Change, Extreme Events and Remote Sensing). He has been involved in multiple researches analyzing climate and weather extreme events impacts on public health and resilience. Dr. Méndez is an active Member of the Puerto Rico Climate Change Council, San Juan ULTRA (Urban Long Term Research Area) and a City Co-Lead in UREx-SRN (Urban Resilience to Extreme weather events-Sustainability Research Network). He is also a Co-author of the US Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4) for the Caribbean Region (Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands) and one of the multiple PIs in the following research projects:
Principal Investigator: “Early Warning of Synoptic Air Quality Events to Improve Health and Well Being in the Greater Caribbean Region” funded by NASA.
Principal Investigator: “Climate Change Action Plans in Coastal Communities of Puerto Rico to Improve Quality of Life: A collaborative approach” funded by Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources-Coastal Zone Management Office and Climate Change (DRNA).
Co-Principal Investigator: “Impact to Hurricane related stressors and response on oncology care and health outcomes of women with gynecological cancers in PR and USVI” funded by National Institute of Cancer (2018-2020).
City Co-Lead: UREx-SRN (Urban Resilience to Extreme weather events-Sustainability Research Network) funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
