I am currently working on questions related to the effects of land use on climate. This includes mainly how land use and land use changes interact with the carbon cycle, but I am interested in expanding my research by integrating the interactions of land use with political decisions and social dynamics.
Until recently I have worked on quantifying the future impacts of heat stress on human health based on physical climate models. Adaptation strategies are key to attenuate the impacts of heat stress on humans, but climate models do not capture such strategies. Moreover, adaptation measures may impact the (local) climate as well (e.g. if more green spaces are built or if more air conditioning is installed), highlighting the need to consider both the physical and the human aspects of climate change. I would thus very much like to combine the threat from physical hazards with vulnerability and adaptation measures.
