Yannick earned a Ph.D. in Forestry from the School of Agronomy in Lisbon, Portugal, before moving to Washington DC. He's been exploring the drivers and impacts of vegetation fires at regional to global scales, with a particular interest in the interaction of climate (fire-prone conditions) and human activities (e.g. fire-use for deforestation or land-management). At the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI, USA), his research also involved Integrated Assessment Modeling with a focus on the role of terrestrial ecosystems in climate mitigation strategies, including developing a better integration of spatial dynamics in land-use change and other disturbances. Since July 2015, Yannick is in Lisbon, Portugal, at the School of Agronomy, working on fire ecology and climate change with a continued involvement in IAMs.
