Inclusive and Equitable Science

Nurturing inclusive communities of research and practice

Innovative and equitable solutions to global change demand inclusive approaches to producing, sharing, and using science. AGCI works to broaden participation, create inclusive spaces, amplify voices, and engage in equitable research across communities of research and practice.

Organizing Inclusive Scientific Meetings

It’s critical that scientific meetings foster a culture of belonging for all so the full diversity of our scientific communities can thrive and contribute to better, more innovative science. The new Guide to Inclusive Scientific Meetings—based on peer-reviewed research and input from authors representing 500 Women Scientists, Earth Science Women’s Network, Aspen Global Change Institute, Pal(a)eoPERCS, NCAR, LiKEN, MPOWIR—presents concrete guidance to help you plan more inclusive, diverse, equitable, accessible, and just STEM conferences, webinars, workshops, and trainings.

Combating Racial Bias in STEMM

This short explainer video, co-written and produced with MIT’s Kuheli Dutt, illustrates how racial bias creates hostile work spaces in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) fields, and what scientists can do to overcome racial bias to create inclusive spaces and authentic partnerships.

AGCI’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

In December 2017, AGCI’s Board of Directors adopted our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. We recognize the role that AGCI can play in improving diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sciences, and this statement of commitment serves as a foundation for our actions as we embrace that role. We see this as an ongoing process and dialogue, and welcome feedback on how we can continue to improve our practices.
