Max Kiefer is the Interim Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Western States Division. Max began his career in private industry (Intel Corporation, International Paper) as a site and corporate Industrial Hygienist. Max joined CDC/NIOSH in 1991 as an Industrial Hygienist conducting health hazard evaluations and in 1997 he became the manager of the NIOSH Atlanta Field Office. He also served as the NIOSH Associate Director for Emergency Preparedness and Response from 2004 -2006 and Director, NIOSH Western States Office from 2007-2015. Max Kiefer has a B.S. in Environmental Health/Microbiology from the University of Georgia (1982) and a M.S. in Industrial Hygiene from Colorado State University (1984), and is an ABIH certified industrial hygienist.
