Senay Habtezion serves as START’s focal point for the Global Environmental Change (GEC) – Governance portfolio. He also manages START’s Global Observation of Forest Cover and Land Dynamics (GOFC-GOLD) and Advanced Institutes for Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programs. Previously, Senay worked for UNITAR, Geneva, and UNDP, New York, on GEC related programming and research. He was also research fellow at Harvard University and a faculty at the University of Asmara. He is Lead Author for the policy chapter of the Global Environment Outlook Report (GEO-5). Senay holds a bachelors degree from the University of Asmara, a master’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law and has attended the Donald Bren School of Environmental Management, University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a member of the New York Bar.
