Biosystems Modeling and Analysis


Dr. James W. Jones, Distinguished Professor and Director of the Florida Climate Institute, has conducted research and taught graduate classes for the last 35 years at the University of Florida. His research focus is agricultural systems modeling and studying effects of climate variability and climate change on crop yield for evaluating management options that increase productivity and economic benefits. He has led and participated in many interdisciplinary research programs nationally and internationally. Author of more than 300 refereed journal articles, he co-leads the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP), a global initiative for advancing the science of model-based assessments in agriculture and for assessing food security and poverty under current and future climate conditions. He developed and taught a graduate course on Simulation of Agricultural and Biological Systems, and he co-developed and taught short courses worldwide on modeling cropping systems. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE), Fellow member of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA), and Fellow member of the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). He serves on various international science advisory committees.
