James Murphy joined the UK Met Office in 1981, and has spent his career working on projections of global and regional climate at various time scales. He is currently manager of the Climate Prediction Group in the Met Office Hadley Centre, involved in work on ensemble climate prediction, climate scenario development, regional climate modelling, extreme events and interannual to decadal prediction. James was a lead author in the recent IPCC fourth assessment report, and is also involved in the development of European ensemble climate prediction systems through the ENSEMBLES project.
AGCI has become an intellectual proving ground, a ferment for new ideas and concepts, and a place where the different disciplines actually talk, and progress. Hal Harvey
