Biography
Recently retired after 25 years with the Canadian Forest Service, Mike's research on the role of forests in global change has earned him, quite literally, an international reputation. He's involved, to name a few, with the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program; the European Forest Institute; and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) where he worked at applying his carbon budget model to Siberia.Carbon budget model?Mike led the development of a Carbon Budget Model for Canada and it is still one of the few and best ways to measure Carbon storage in trees.Mike is an eclectic person with a great sense of humour and his work and that of the Carbon Accounting Team headquartered at the Pacific Forestry Centre in Victoria is extremely topical
