Biography
Francis Zwiers is a Senior Research Scientist and Chief of the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria. He serves on a number of panels, is co-chair of the CCl/CLIVAR Expert Team on Climate Change Detection, Monitoring and Indices, has served as an Editor of the Journal of Climate and has been prominent in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Scientific Assessment activities. Dr. Zwiers is a Coordinating Lead Author of the chapter "Understanding and Attributing Climate Change" of "Climate Change 2007: The Scientific Basis", which is being produced as a contribution of Working Group 1 to the Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC, and was a lead author of the climate change detection chapter of the Third Assessment Report. His current research interests include the analysis of change in climatic extremes, detection and attribution of climatic change, and climate forecasting on seasonal to decadal scales.
