October 26, 2021

About the Intern: Rachael Jones is a Sustainability major at Colorado Mountain College. This summer she was selected by University of California, Scripps for a CW3E internship, a research experience for undergraduates (REU)-based program.

Rachael’s internship was a blended virtual/in-person experience and was co-mentored by faculty and staff from Scripps, the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council, Colorado Mountain College, and AGCI. Throughout her internship, Rachael received an introduction to a variety of skills, including: developing a research question, exploring scientific literature, accessing and downloading data sets, map development in GIS, and presenting to a scientific audience. She additionally assisted AGCI with field work for their iRON program.

At the end of the CW3E internship program, participants were asked to share their work with one another virtually. Rachael opted to practice creating a scientific-conference style poster for her presentation and selected as the topic her work comparing past and present climate in Yampa and Roaring Fork Watersheds .
