Dr. L. Ruby Leung is a Laboratory Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and an Affiliate Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. She received her MS and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from Texas A&M University in 1988 and 1991. Since she joined PNNL, her primary research focus has been on regional climate modeling. She has developed a subgrid parameterization of orographic precipitation that enables effective coupling between climate and hydrologic models at the watershed scale. She has applied regional climate models to study land-atmosphere interactions, the East Asian and North American monsoon, climate change effects on water resources and air quality, and aerosol effects on regional climate and the hydrological cycle. She chairs the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model Regional Climate Model Working Group, and has organized workshops sponsored by NSF, DOE, NASA, and NOAA to develop priorities in regional climate and mountain research. Dr. Leung is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She has published over 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
