Tom's career has been marked with a number of awards for his service in furthering the understanding of global change. In 2003, in honor of his leadership and dedication, he was awarded the Verner E. Suomi Award by the American Meteorological Society. Tom has served as an editor for the Journal of Climate and as an associate editor for Climatic Change. His research interests include global climate change, extreme weather events, and trends in global and U.S. climate over the past 100 years.
